Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Cathy seems like out of The Onion
#Who knows maybe they'll be amazing like how Tom Hardy is able to pull being an amazing Heathcliff#But I doubt it I've never been into any of their roles much idk#And also#Couldn't they just#Even if they were amazing#Couldn't they just cast amazing people that actually fit the air vibes and look of the characters?#And not just some actors that are popular at the moment of the process of filming?#Besides very popular actors playing very popular characters is always ALWAYS wrong#I don't understand at all#And in 2024 year of our lord or whatever how do you cast a white man as Heathcliff? With all the significance it has?#Have you read the book or only wikiquote?#I think Jacob Elordi is a better fit than some others before him. At least he has some charm and you could believe he could throw a punch#But. Couldn't they just. Cast a man that also has physical presence but that fits the description of the book#and is not the pretty boy of the moment? It's detrimental for such an iconic character that the actor is that well known#and Heathcliff being non white is key. How do you mess that up every time ahfkabdkskd or#This will sprout more obligatory Dev Patel fancast and I don't want to see that either#Dev Patel is also famous and doesn't fit Heathcliff at all in vibes or looks. He is lanky and soft faced#Those fancasts always sit so wrong on me#Won't even talk about Margot Robbie as Cathy. The vibes are all wrong. She could have been Catherine Linton perhaps when she was twenty#But as Cathy? Cathy Earnshaw? All the wrong vibes#Truly like out of The Onion what is this mess#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#Weren't they going to make an East of Eden adaptation that also had Famous Actress of the Moment as Cathy Ames?#Why do they always do that? Don't they know it's always shit? ahfkabdkskd#Why do the Dev Patel fancasts sit wrong on me? Because they feel lazy and kinda racist#You know one very famous non black actor of colour and cast him as Heathcliff. Come on. There's more people in the world#There's more actors of colour. There's more Indian actors. Many of them must be amazing and many of them are not famous#and many of them must resemble Heathclif's air and looks way more than Patel. Who is amazing but is not a good choice here#Tbh WH fancasts always kinda give 'Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Cathy' to me haha

@profandomhopper i was going to reblog the original post this comment was left on but i felt it divorced itself from the original topic so much, you get your own post for giving me delightful permission to ramble about this. buckle in people this is long.
so, DC is a big fandom that expanses a lot of different types of content, and like anything, is subject to crossovers. the obvious ones like Marvel are for the reason of being a similar and equally popular superhero world, so it's easy to transpose the worlds onto each other and overlap the characters. both of these worlds deal with multiverses and endless, endless heroes. it makes sense and there's no real stretch to think Batman and Spider-Man could co-exist. i mean, there have been canon crossover comics. and even some more random crossovers like White Collar have pretty easy to trace origins, being an actor in WC was a popular Dick fancast back in the day so there was some bleeding over that led to a well-loved niche crossover space.
but Danny Phantom and Miraculous Ladybug are where it gets interesting. because at a surface, MLB sort of makes sense. it's a superhero world, you're following a teen girl superhero and sure the mechanics are pretty contained, but the crossover should make sense. but when you compare it to the crossover numbers of other superhero media like say My Hero Academia, Ladybug takes the *crown* with such a bizarre popularity. and of course, DP feels like it makes even less sense. sure, you *could* lump it into at the very least, superhero-adjacent media, but it's not a true hero world like MLB or DC is.
but, the thing to always understand about DC, *especially* the Batfamily (which is where the crossover content propagates the most) is this: a *very* good chunk of fans don't interact with the comics. i would venture to say even most Batfamily fans don't read the comics and actively talk about it. we've all read a very fandom big Batfam fanfic where the author's note mentions the writer has never touched a comic in their life. typically, these fans are either cobbling together their understanding from fandom content, or by frankensteining unrelated DC adaptations to understand each character. you take Bruce from Batman: TAS, you take Dick from the animated Young Justice, you take Jason from Batman: Under The Red Hood animated movie, you take Damian from the DCAMU Batman vs Robin, and you read some fandom metas to fill in the rest and well, you've got some sort of an understanding of these characters. read enough incorrect quotes, some genfic, a couple of character metas, and boom, you understand the Batfamily fandom enough to start creating your own content. and of course now. now you have Wayne Family Adventures so it's even *easier*. a pretty easy to pick up webtoon that's filling in all the gaps for you. but i've been in this fandom long enough to remember before we had WFA and even then, this was still a common, if not the most popular way, to ween yourself into the DC fandom space. you cherry-picked the canon you liked and then plunged into the depths of fanon.
i'm not here to make in depth commentary on if i think this is a good or bad thing. trust me i have that commentary in my head, but that would need it's own post. i'm very split on it and my feelings are complicated. my feelings on WFA are even *more* complicated. because oftentimes, the attitude expressed by these fans who are frankensteining this version of the Batfamily/DC world they have in their head is they don't *want* to read the comics. the comics don't contain the content they're after. and to an extent, i understand that. if you're looking for light-hearted vibes of the Batfamily all getting along and having the occasional hurt/comfort moments but in the end, they hug and make up, you're right. largely, you won't find that in canon. of course there are so many comics to recommend for Batfamily interactions, but you have to get specific. you'll find them interacting in small groups, Tim and Dick bonding here, Duke and Cass bonding there, but largely, the comics don't care to balance the ridiculously large cast they've given themselves. but fandom does. it's easy to toss them all in a blender and ignore the parts you don't like. the default argument to ignoring the comics or writing something OOC is always "well the comics are OOC and inconsistent too" which, while a flawed argument that massively misunderstand how comics work as a medium, isn't an entirely incorrect one. you could serve on a silver platter to these fans, an easy and accessible way to get into comics and they wouldn't be interested. it's not what they're here for. fandom is always character-driven above all else. it's driven by character relationships and dynamics. if someone wants to consume content where Tim idolized and stalked Jason as 'his Robin' and now is trying to help him rehabilitate and they're super complicated but have this long epic forgiveness arc, why *would* they read the comics? because they're sure as shit not going to find that dynamic in the comics. it's laughably OOC and not canon at all, but that doesn't matter. what matters is the sandbox. most Batfamily fans care *far* more about the sandbox canon gives them than the actual canon itself. feel how you feel about that, this really isn't being negative toward that attitude, but it is a common attitude.
so, you have Batfamily fans playing in the sandbox and building their own narrative. common fandom headcanons are so common, you could practically write a guide on how the fanon Batfamily works with how consistent people are about it. or you could just read WFA, which is practically the new manifesto of it. even now, with this sudden spike in people talking about canon accuracy and "actually this happening in the comics", they don't actually care about the comics, just what they can cherry-pick for fodder. (even if they rob it of so much context they're just as OOC as they were before. see specifically: the recent phenomena with Tim Drake going from the woobified weakest member of the Batfam who everyone needs to save constantly and he's the smart boy but he's also the one with a sad tragic neglectful past who gets overlooked being the way Batfamily fandom played with Tim for years. but recently, people seem to be pushing this idea of a ridiculously badass Tim, Tim who *totally* has a kill count because of his actions in RR (2009) if you take them completely out of context, Tim who bested Ra's and is even more badass than Jason and he's the 17 yr old CEO of Wayne Industries being cool and flawless it becoming the new fandom zeitgeist. neither of these versions of Tim are canon, and the second fundamentally misunderstands his arc in RR (2009) but the shift has undeniably happened and it's been fascinating to watch. the same thing happened with people suddenly deciding Jason isn't the "angry violent Robin", he was a sunshine sweet boy who was perfect as Robin. neither of these are true, but the second feels more transgressive and new to fandom from cherry-picked panels.) the point is largely, Batfamily fans would rather build their own canon than play with the actual canon.
and then, you have Danny Phantom. i'm not into DP and have no interest to get into it, but what i know about it via fandom osmosis is this: DP fans sort of also don't give a fuck about canon. once again, the canon of DP is a sandbox, not a rulebook. the concepts and the characters are the draw, not the plot itself. i've seen DP posts explaining characters who are essentially OCs, but have become so dominant in the fandom via fandom osmosis. there are concepts and ideas about how Danny's powers work and potential concepts with his ghost nature that either aren't in canon or only happened once in canon and fans decided to expand on that and doesn't care about it's own in-universe logic. i've seen a lot of DP fans also express they haven't seen the show and they don't have plans to see the show. because the show is just some children's cartoon with some inconsistencies and a simple plot, as you'd expect from CN. the show isn't the point. no one cares about it's plot, they care about it's characters. they care about pushing the concept of half ghost boy to a logical extreme and seeing what you can get out of that. can you make it weird and fucked up. how much can you highlight on his trauma and body horror. what identity crisis can you give him and how can you build his interactions with other characters in his world around that and also make those characters fun and unique on their own. sure, the skeleton of canon is there, but the meat lies all in the fanon.
Miraculous Ladybug also exists in this similar vein. the characters, the concepts, those hold intrigue. and not even mentioning the fact the original concept for this show was supposed to be aimed to an older audience, so you can see the bones of something a bit more mature and nuanced under this typical, villain of the week magical girl transformation show. the show itself is a bit shallow and that's not a *bad* thing, it's just the medium it exists within being aimed towards children. but the concepts of a teen girl who's basically a sort of chosen one, a boy who doesn't know his father is the big bad of the show, and their weird identity porn love... square thing. those dynamics are *so* complicated and such a fun sandbox to play in with character-driven fandom.
so, at the core, you have three fandoms that care more about the culturally accepted fanon than the canon, with a good chunk of people often not even consuming the original canon content. and well, DC is an *easy* world to transpose just about anything onto. a boy who's half ghost and fighting supernatural threats? that makes sense, DC has ghost heroes like Deadman already. a girl who has this magical item that gives her animal themed superpowers? i mean that's practically the same thing as Vixen's Totem so that one makes sense too. they fit in pretty easy, no needing to change the world to accommodate them. and of course, if you're a fan of *one* fandom where you don't care for the canon content and only like the fandom sandbox, chances are, you'll get drawn in pretty easily to another fandom with similar mechanics. if you can teach yourself the DP fandom rules/concepts, you can teach yourself the Batfamily fandom rules/concepts. and well, since there's so much crossover in fandom members, why not write the fanfiction? crossover fics will always exist, but with such a shared member base, you have a really big boom.
it's why the characters you see DP interact with in DC are *always* characters who are far more driven by fanon than canon. Danny and John Constantine is a *massive* concept. for people who don't read Hellblazer comics. my poor partner, @divine-dominion has lamented to me pretty often about finding DP content in the Hellblazer tag that is essentially turning Constantine into an OC. because whatever version of Constantine is being written about isn't one bit comics accurate, and really, isn't trying to be. and the same thing happens with Shazam. you watch Young Justice and understand him well enough, you get drawn in by the character concept that you just run with it. people put their favorite blorbos in the same place because hey, wouldn't ghost boy be pretty cool in a city like *Gotham*. how would Batman even react to him. and then, the shipping. because ages for the Batfamily can be easily hand-waved and moved around based on where you plop Danny into the timeline, you have your pick of the litter with him, and same with Ladybug. of course there are the most popular ships but largely, the world is your oyster.
i don't think this is the worst thing in the world for either fandom. it's not hard to filter out the crossover tags and scroll past content i don't like. and sure, i see the appeal of making your blorbos from two different places meet. i've got my drafts *full* of DC/MHA crossover ideas because well, i like them both and think that would be cool. i think my only gripe with it is when DP or MLB crossover content seeps it's way into the wrong tags. using the above example, if you're writing about Danny and Constantine but there's zero content of the actual Hellblazer comics, i don't think you need the Hellblazer tag, just the Constantine character tag. tbh i wish this extended onto Ao3 and people utilized fandom tags better. if you're writing Batfamily fanfiction that is very clearly and obviously WFA driven in characterization and concepts, i would far prefer those fics be tagged with the WFA fandom tag rather than the Batman (comics) fandom tag. because well, you're not writing about the Batman comics. and there's nothing wrong with that, but it helps if you don't confuse yourself for content striving to interact with canon more. (this especially extends to Young Justice, by the way. if you're writing for the Young Justice tv show please, please stop using the Young Justice (comics) fandom tag. i'm at my wit's end- /lh)
the whole thing is fascinating. i've got zero interest in entering DP or MLB as fandoms because that's not my speed, but witnessing it as an outsider is my favorite pastime. i see a *lot* of posts going around the DC x DP space that are helping explain to people who's who, what's what, and understanding the canon/fanon of both of these properties so others can better enter the space. which is not something you'd need in a fandom driven only by it's canon content, but it is sweet watching others try to help newbies enter the space. it's a very inviting fandom space, i think, whether you lament it's existence or not. they're just sitting in their corner with their blorbos, and i gotta respect that. the posts explaining the Batfamily to DP fans are always fun for me to read, even if i disagree with some of the characterizations in them because it helps shine a light on what the fans of this crossover regard as "important" enough about each fandom to be worth including those sorts of primers. very fascinating stuff.
#necrotic festerings#dc x dp#dc x dp crossover#dc x mlb#danny phantom#miraculous ladybug#batfamily#dc comics#fandom meta#fandom analysis#but i can totally write more of these analysis type posts bc i *love* this shit#it's like fandom anthropology#fan studies#love that shit and i have *so* many case studies i could write about cultural phenomena in the batfamily fandom space#bc you can tell by my. everything i'm a comics purist#but i'm not totally negative to fanon#i roll my eyes. I cringe. I send long rants to my loved ones.#but i live and let live and i'm not going to jump down a fanon post for being painfully incorrect. it's just mean and not how we behave.#like there's a difference that and between correcting ppl who say 'in the comics-' when they haven't read the comics#but most ppl aren't claiming their content is based on the comics. and i can respect that honesty#like you're just rawdogging it#i understand the appeal of it. seriously no shade it's a fun sandbox if you just want cool blorbos.#it's *not* how I do fandom but to each their own#and ofc i want comic accurate fanfic but i can find that on my own. it's not hard to do#some comic purists act like there's *no* comic fandom content and come on now.#it's pretty easy to tell the difference when you're scrolling ao3. let's not be unkind to content not made for us.#but i'm serious please do stay out of comic tags if you're not writing comic content. it's my only gripe with this whole thing.#besides that be gay be free.#be cringe. it's freeing i promise.#i jest about being sick of that green ghost boy and that ladybug girl in fandom but it's all silly. i really don't mind.

The people who are crying 'racism' and 'bigotry' over Elain with wings are the same weirdos who were up in arms about mermaid Elain fanarts (because apparently that's only for Gwyn).
Because obviously having wings means she's Illyrian now, the same way Feyre was?
Feyre didn't become Illyrian just because she could grow wings. Elain wouldn't either.
Moreover it's just a fanart. Artists have creative freedom to make art.
And if they have problems with Feyre having wings too, and if they think the author is bigoted or zionist or whatever hateful buzz word they want to plaster onto her, then why are they even in the fandom? Why are they adding to her fandom if they hate her so much? Why so invested?
It's because of such people that artists stop making fanarts or engaging with the fandom. They throttle everyone's creative spirit by their bullying and virtue signalling.
This comes from a POC (me) who's had enough of this bs virtue signalling. These people have no issues fancasting their fave white boys as Illyrians but they cry about race when it's something they don't like.
I say cry harder and be upset about Elain with wings, makes no difference. I and others will support this artist.
#sometimes I like to criticize sjm too. but tbh if I become this hateful towards her I'll simply leave the fandom#people have stopped having fun in the fandom#there's a big stick up their butts and they're making it everyone's problem#like gtfo#elain archeron#azriel shadowsinger#elriel

yes, lol. i also don't like tyler being cast as the son of two white folk, but this isn't a tyler blog, so i didn't bring it up here. even with abby being biracial, that still wouldn't add up to a biracial daughter with the matter of rudy. it is genuinely no disrespect to kat, i just don't like when things don't match up and i see a lot of people always fancasting mixed actors in roles that don't fit them, which usually bothers me.
This isn't a fancast. This doesn't make any sense and is a strange argument to make when Rudy wasn't cast until season 4. Abby didn't show up till season 3. So you're arguing over 25% blackness? You want someone "fully black" which doesn't make sense either. How does someone "fully" black have a biracial mother (since Persia would still be Abby) based on your understanding of race? Shouldn't you be wondering why they cast those parents instead of trying to change who play Bonnie since Kat came first?
That's not how genetics OR race work in the slightest. If you're biracial, you don't get an even 50% split of black and white genes. Different siblings with the same parents have different genetic codes. This also means they can have different ethnic backgrounds. This doesn't just apply to biracial people either. Why bring up Tyler and not Enzo? Is Trevino not white passing enough for you? This conversation is silly. Kat is visibly and likely more ethnically black than Persia. It doesn't matter how black the actress playing Bonnie is since she was always going to be mistreated (ex: Sarah Salvatore).
I rarely get upset running the page but illogical race discussion bothers me. As a black girl with black parents AND black grandparents, I understand the abundance of mixed-race or biracial representation in media can be overwhelming since it directly correlates with colorism. However, Kat was not cast in a role that doesn't fit her (based on your belief system). Bonnie's parents were cast in a way that doesn't mirror Kat's.

hi guys! not back yet but i feel i should comment on this given the type of stories i write and the fact i'm white.
i see fanfiction in a different light, personally. instead of using the boys' real personalities for my characters, i use them as actors—if the story demands them to be evil or dicks, i don't see anything wrong in making them be so because it's not how i'm claiming they are irl, but how the characters i've created and i'm "fancasting" them as are like. i honestly thought that's what everyone did. otherwise fuckboy fics wouldn't exist when the boys are sweethearts irl, and i don't think of them as fiction, but fanfiction. of course that is not to say my preference is the only acceptable one!! just that it's that, a matter of preferences.
now, because i mostly write historical fics set in europe, where i'm from, i make my characters be from there. a suspension of disbelief comes without saying here. you're supposed to imagine that both you and x member were born and raised in 15th century florence, 19th century london, or bronze age greece. i'm not from either of these places and european culture isn't universal, so i have to do a bit of imagining too just as i will when i set historical fics in south korea, my ocs looking like me in my mind and me being pale white. i've even had members be ocs' biological siblings, so that's even crazier. see it as fantasy if it makes it easier. but it would never cross my mind to portray the guys as white or any ethnicity/race other than korean! i occasionally write them naturally blond but i genuinely thought there was nothing wrong with that, like when other fic writers ask readers to imagine "agust d yoongi" or "wings era hoseok" etc, as the appearance of their characters.
in my fics, i expect you to take for granted that people of different races aren't "out of place" despite the time period and place, and that no one inside the story questions why there's an asian knight in medieval spain. you're more than allowed to consider all other characters as asian or black or whatever, sort of like in bridgerton or the witcher.
the reason i come up with more material for europe is not because i'm not interested in the boys' culture (i absolutely love it), it's because i'm more familiar with its history and the research is more accessible to me (checking primary sources without speaking korean makes that difficult). i couldn't set hysteria or angel in the marble in joseon as i would then be morphing korean culture to be more similar to mine and comfortable to me, and that i do find wrong.
these are my thoughts on the matter, by which i don't mean to invalidate anyone, just explain where my intentions come from. they're good, obviously, but i know that's not enough and it doesn't exempt me from partaking in racism. i will be more conscious from now on. if you see anything wrong with my fics regarding this issue, i welcome the criticism to learn from my mistakes (but please assume i made them unawares).
#i hope my tone doesn't come accross as rude or sarcastic#when i try to be formal about a serious matter i never explain myself well#venus raves

Fancasting.
Me when I see mfs fancasting Henry Cavill to play Rhysand (leave that white man alone😭):
I was scrolling through reels a couple of weeks ago and saw this lady doing a interview with him and she mentioned that he's "popular" as a fancast when it comes to booktok and apparently, he knows it and doesn't see to mind it? (I'm trying my best to recall it so bear with me)
He has good book recommendations (saw this Tik Tok of him talking about Brandon Sanderson so I can trust him on that, heard nothing but praise when it comes to Brandon) and I doubt that Sarah is a genre for him. Anyone can read what they want but he doesn't give that vibe to me, y'know? I could be wrong but eh.
He's also a smart guy and seems to have critical thinking. So imagine if he decided to pick up Acotar, reads the first book, and go "what the fuck? And people root for this guy?" Just to find out that he's a popular fancast for Rhysand.
What's the chokehold this man has on booktok? I can't lie because he got me in one to (he can literally choke me- I'm sorry y'all)
I've seen fancasting him for Rowan Whitethorn in Throne of Glass which I don't mind but what I do mind is when PEOPLE TAKE GERALT AND CIRI TO FANCAST AS ROWAN AND AELIN!
YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT, LADIES AND GENTS. @viktoriaashleyyx I don't know if you're aware of it but if you are now, sorry you had to find out this way🙏🏾
THE GIANT ASS AGE GAP BETWEEN ROWAELIN IS WILD BUT AT LEAST, THEY'RE BOTH ADULTS. YOU ARE TAKING A FATHER AND DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP FOR YOUR FAVORITE SHIP?
Have y'all even watched the witcher or read the books because it's clear that you haven't.
Here's the wiki for Ciri (Netflix's version)
I can understand why people would take Ciri/Freya Allen and cast her as Aelin.
Ashen-grey hair
Emerald green eyes
A princess and heir to her kingdom, Cintra
Aelin:
Golden blonde hair
Turquoise eyes ringed with gold
A princess and heir to her kingdom, Terrasen
But there's a catch. Take a look at the family section of her wiki.
You get why it's weird and (let's be honest) controversial to fancast these two as a couple in another series?
Now, I can't talk as I take Geralt as a fancast for Maegor Targaryen (The Cruel) but they do fit. White hair, big, buff, and tough warriors, mommy issues (Sorry Maegor), and they're infertile (Maegor isn't confirmed to be infertile but he always failed to have a kid so....). The only difference is that Geralt is a good lover (If I can recall correctly) and has a kid despite not being his own flesh and blood. (Hell, I might use Yennefer as a fancast for Ashara Dayne.)
And can you imagine how some people will react if a white guy was casted as Rhysand?
Can you imagine how some people will react if a man of color was casted as Rhysand?
Either way, it's a shitstorm. The better and possibly the safest solution is casting a Mediterranean actor.
Anyways, I made this during the night and now, I'm tired. Take care and don't take this post to heart or take it too seriously✌🏾
(Share your thoughts if you like but no arguing, fighting, etc).

It's Blacktober, so I'm gonna be brave and drop all the Black headcanons I currently have for DC
Putting it under a read more because I added a lot more notes than I originally thought I was going to.
Dick Grayson — Afro-Romani. Nicknamed Cricket because he was a super skinny kid with ADHD who chattered almost nonstop
Jason Todd — Afro-Filipino (3rd generation). Nicknames include Jay-Jay, JT, Jaypee (spelled exactly that way), PJ, and Peter Poppins (he brought an umbrella to a cookout once because the forecast said it was gonna rain, somebody made fun of him, the nickname stuck). Jason Peter Todd just sounds like a name that's simultaneously Black and Filipino idk. Black Millennial name + I swear so many Filipinos are named Jason, especially in the U.S. They named him Peter after St. Peter (he doesn't have to come up with a Confirmation saint and name himself like I had to...man, Jason would be just old enough to get the sacrament just to die the same year.)
Selina Kyle — Eartha Kitt is my live action Catwoman. I need not say more.
Harvey Dent — Black mama and white dad. Old folks who knew him exclusively called him Junior, never by name. Harvey Dent just sounds like an old Black man's name too, like I'm pretty sure a distant cousin on my dad's side is called Harvey. Also, I never see Black characters as mob bosses, so I'm gonna lay my grubby little hands on him. I actually wrote a whole essay on the social commentary that could be explored if Harvey was a lightskinned Black man, but I'm gonna keep that to myself for now.
Minhkhoa Khan — Mom is Black, Malay, and Filipino. Dad is Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai. I don't have nicknames for him yet (I'd also have to find an excuse for characters to give him any </3)
Walk with me on this one. I'm imagining this haircut as curly on top with a fade rather than just straight hair with an undercut. I don't think he has 4 type hair; but if he did have 4b or 4c, he'd be the guy who'd laser focus on picking his hair so he can ignore you </3
For his mullet era, see Prince for reference. I think people only hate mullets because they're almost always seen with straight hair, and straight hair cannot emulate the sheer cunt that curls serve in every moment tbh.
Also, this just looks like a durag to me. Seems to be tied like one. Every time someone draws this head covering, it looks exactly like a durag. What does he need a durag for if not to keep moisture and protect his curl pattern?
He's also my personal win for the kingdom of Blasia.
Halo from the Young Justice cartoon — she's mixed Black to me. I think Qurac is meant to based on Iraq? So maybe she's Black and Iraqi. idk I just think Black Muslims should be seen more in media.
Everyone in the Superfamily — I read that one post years ago about how logically Kryptonians should be darkskinned if their powers come from absorbing yellow son energy (people without color reflect it instead) + someone else talking about Afro-Latino Superboy. I agree with all their points (don't ask me for either of these posts, it was three fandom lifetimes ago).
Zatanna Zatara — that one post on twitter fancasting Ayo Edebiri as Zatanna. I am walking together with that person. I see the vision. A win for #BlackGirlMagic. Give "Justice League Dark" new meaning (you can throw tomatoes for that one)
#blacktober#Black headcanons#DC comics#I just think most of Bruce's lovers are Black (Harvey & Minhkhoa & Selina & Clark to be clear)#I hate that I have to make that clear. this is a no batcest zone.#anyways yes I am projecting now leave me alone. they're niggas to me#Also I wanted dickkory to be blk4blk too not just t4t#if this post becomes unrebloggable and you can't reply it's because They got my ass#I cleared the 5 tag rule so here are the character tags for personal organization#dick grayson#jason todd#selina kyle#harvey dent#minhkhoa khan#gabrielle dhou#zatanna zatara#clark kent#superfamily

ok I'm gonna start this with the disclaimer of "i know people are just doing this for fun and I'm not trying to shit on their parade" and yadda yadda yadda. but with that being Said, Arcane doesn't need a live action. the animation is one of the things that makes it good. but the Problem i have with all these fan castings is that they don't even make sense and people keep casting white actors for people like Caitlyn and Sevika, just throw any celebrity who has short hair for Vi, and practically any black actor they can think of for Mel and Ekko because apparently thinking of a good actor that'd fit them is hard.
for one, Caitlyn is wasian and Sevika is black so no casting a white woman doesn't work. i Get yall like Florence Pugh as White Widow but she would Not be a good fit for Vi and casting Kristen Stewart just cuz she has short hair and happens to be gay doesn't work either friends. just like Rhea Ripley wouldn't work for Sevika cuz yk she's a white woman. and let's be So for real no other actress would be able to play Jinx in the way that Ella Purnell does, like that woman won an award for a Reason.
like I said, if you're going to make a fancast video for funzies at least make it make sense or at the Very least not cast a white person for a person of color, ok?
#arcane#live action#fan casting#please stop#none of this makes sense#yall are lowkey racist with some of ur choices#not to shit on your parade#make it make sense#“its just for fun” i Get that#caitlyn kiramman#vi arcane#jinx arcane#sevika arcane#shes wasian#use your brain#im being so insulting i know#im a little frustrated#like what#sorry not sorry

Alright, your turn! If YOUR OCs starred in a movie, who would you pick to play them?
(I know you have a ton of OCs, feel free to just do the ones you can come up with a good answer for - I struggled to pick people for this and I have like half the OCs you do lol)
Alright so some of these people aren't actors or anything but they're definitely who I imagine the characters looking like-
Siv: Romy Flores, 100%. She's got the face, the nose, the "don't give a fuck" attitude. All she'd really need is gray contact lenses and either a haircut or a short wig.
Hailey: Lynk Lee isn't 100% perfect for Hailey, since Hailey has a more stocky, muscular build, but in the hypothetical movie, if she were to do some weight training, she could definitely do Hailey justice. Also, she'd need green/blue contacts for Hailey's post-death heterochromatic eyes.
Jay: Elliot Fletcher is the closest I can get to how I imagine Jay looking, though I would hypothetically want to cast someone who was both transmasc and physically disabled, since Jay is both.
Cassandra: Halle is absolutely perfect for Cassandra- though if she were to play the role, she'd need violet contacts for Cassandra's magic-corrupted eyes.
Arya: Cayley Spivey, 100%! This, but with elf ears and a shaggy mullet! (fun fact: Spivey was the fancast for Siv's original design)
Esme: Ava Max is my current fancast for her. She's got the bleach blonde hair, the "party girl" vibe and the angular yet cutesy face.
Gina: Ilianna Ayala Garcia would make a pretty good Gina, imo, though she's a little older than the actual Gina was when she died, what movie doesn't have a 20-something playing a teen?
Ember: Marina Summers, a queen who starred in S1 of Drag Race Philippines, is absolutely perfect for Ember!
Cat: Even though she doesn't necessarily look entirely like Cat, I've never been able to imagine anyone but Anna Cathcart as her. I think its just the vibes lol.
Kyle: This random-ass hockey player from Minnesota, Ryan Johnson, has been my faceclaim for Kyle since I first created the character.
Max: Heng Sokvisal makes a pretty good Max, just slap on a pair of glasses and we're good to go!
Khalil: Shameik Moore makes the perfect Khalil imo. No comments, just vibes. (though since Khalil works as a makeup artist I'd definitely give him some gold eyeliner or something)
Reggie: Winnie Harlow's pretty much perfect for Reggie, though she'd need blue contacts because Reggie has xer dad's eyes.
Ameerah: Amandla Stenberg makes an absolutely amazing Ameerah, I'd definitely want her to have the light blonde hair like in the picture, and she'd need pink contacts to match Ameerah's description.
Rania: Denise Bidot, 10000000%. She's been my faceclaim for her for like, FOREVER.
Director Hawke: Julianne Moore, specifically in her "President Coin" look. Director Hawke was loosely based on President Coin, so I've always imagined her looking somewhat like her.
Meredith: Rachel Zegler, but with glasses and lighter brown hair.
Onnie: Same as Siv lol it's her multiversal variant
Jessi: Same as Esme, multiversal variant
Pippa: Veondre Mitchell is the perfect Pippa! She was actually the one who I initially based Pippa's appearance off of.
Hyun-Ki: Park Sung-Hoon is a pretty good Hyun-Ki. From his dramatic looks to his honestly kinda gorgeous voice. I don't doubt he'd make a great Hyun-Ki
Thalia: Teyonah Parris is Thalia, there's no doubt about it. Ever since I watched Wandavision and saw her as Monica Rambeau, I knew that she'd be perfect to play Thalia in her hypothetical movie.
Reyna: K-Pop soloist AleXa is a pretty good fancast for her, though she'd need some pretty good SFX makeup or CGI due to Reyna being a near-human felid species.
Athena: Alaqua Cox (AKA Echo from Hawkeye) is how I imagine Athena looks, but with a white streak in the front of her hair (and a lot more seductive of an aesthetic)
Laila: Youtuber Beth Crowley is my faceclaim for Laila, though as Laila I'd want her to either don a short bob or a short wig, and amber contacts.
Marie: Mayu Maeshima is a great faceclaim for Marie, though she'd need SFX makeup for Marie's Romulan features and her Borg implants.
Qiara: Due to Qiara's nature as a being of pure energy, she doesn't necessarily take the same form at all times. However, the one she frequents the most could very well be portrayed by Chiquis Rivera.
Liah: Raquel Rodriguez would make a great Liah, she has the right height and build for her, she would just need SFX makeup for Liah's Cardassian features, and hazel contacts.
Samira: Desiree Akhavan would make a pretty good Samira. She definitely fits how I imagine Samira to look, and she's got the right vibe to play her as well.
Sohelia: Golshifteh Farahani is a pretty good faceclaim for Sohelia, though she'd need some light makeup to make her skin more ashy, due to Sohelia being half-vampire.
Vanessa: Storm Reid is absolutely perfect for Vanessa, though for most of the movie she'd be replaced with either a puppet or CGI double for her monster form.
Dolores: Diane Guerrero is perfect for Dolores. She'd just need some minor makeup in order to look more like a vampire, i.e. ashy skin, red eyes, fangs, etc.
I don't have faceclaims for Eric, Jacob, Antonio, Cory, Soraya, Aldrich, Matt, or Victorie yet.

Rhaenys had black hair. Her having silver in the show is basically the same as her having violet eyes to the boys' brown, given that I think Eve matches eye colour with at least one of them?? Either way, Rhaenys's hair and eyes did not match the boys and was not used as a defence any more than if Aemma looked like an Arryn.
As for Jaehaerys, no one who is purely a show watcher knows that his mother was a Velaryon so it's probably fine in that regard; it isn't used a relevant piece of information. So we have the distinct looks of the Targaryen and Velaryons to help differentiate the Valyrian families and create the visual narrative they wanted and add diversity.
For me, this is quite important information, because if changes are made to the character's genetics, they should be quite consistent. Because then what about the conquest series? The mother of Aegon, Rhaenys and Visenya is Valaena Velaryon. So completely white actors shouldn't be cast, which is what fans expect in fancasts. And people probably don't know about the conquerors' parents.
And yet the fact that the boys' grandmothers were Arryn and Baratheon women was used as an excuse that the genes could have skipped a generation. I think so? If I remember correctly.
And when it comes to the eyes - I honestly don't know what color the actors' eyes are.

OKAY SO A RANT FOR YOU
I'll do it on my hcs of the marauders ethnicities and nationalities hehehe since we were talking about it earlier
starting off with the girls because LADIES FIRST/lh
Marlene— I see her as German or Korean (maybe both for that matter) I saw her as German first originally, and like I love it
I also saw her recently being hc as Korean and I thought that was fitting as well
and I think she was born and raised in England, but her parents always took her on trips back to Germany or to Korea to learn about the cultures and see their extended family as well
she would definitely be bilingual, but no one would realize until one day she just whips it out, and everyone is stunned
Dorcas— Haitian/cuban, she is a Caribbean girlie all the way
Dorcas can fluently speak créole and Spanish, French as well
She was born in Haiti and her parents had her live there until she was like 5 and then brought her to live in England with them
Lily— English/Irish, born in england
but I like to think that her father was born and raised in Ireland and had the thickest accent and so because of her growing up with her mother's English accent and her father's Irish accent, she has this combined accent from the both of them
Mary— I think she could be Nigerian, though I haven't thought too much about Mary (Shame on me ikik 😔)
She was born in England but she lived with her grandmother for a while bc maybe her parents died(?) and then when she got older she moved back to England for school
Emmeline Vance— I actually know nothing about her so I'm open to whatever hcs ppl have for her
I usually see her fancasts being Asian but I'm not sure where in Asia I think she'd be from
Pandora— Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
u told me about Mexican rosier twins earlier and I can't not get that out my mind
I love it sm
they were born and raised in France though, moving to England when they were 12-13 maybe
Sybil— I got no clue here, I'm thinking maybe polish? I'm not sure
she was born as raised in England tho, that's for sure
Bellatrix— Haitian/French
I HAVE A WHOLE THING FOR THIS
Cygnus had an affair(a one night stand) and the woman got pregnant and then came bellatrix, and because she technically had Cygnus' blood, she was partially "pure" so he had to take her in
but the rest of that family is white(you can't convince me that the older generations of the Black Family weren't racist— ironic bc of the name but I digress) and therefore Bellatrix always stood out yk
but she could fluently speak French, her French is honestly better than her English (bc she wanted to be accepted so badly she leaned more into learning french bc it was what her family valued)
she was born and raised in England
Narcissa— French, born and raised in England
Druella was french, Cygnus was French and there you get Narcissa (this sounds so plain after every I wrote for Bella but 😭)
Fluent in French and English
Andromeda— French, born and raised in England
Can speak French, but not as well as her sisters, but knows more than enough to get by
Alice— Italian, born and raised in Italy but moved to England for Hogwarts
idk why but she just seems Italian to me
Rita— kill me but she's so american, in terms of nationality
I think she'd be Greek and dutch ethnically though, but can't speak either of those languages (she can read and write Greek tho, just can't speak it well)
BUT SHE'S SUCH AN AMERICAN 😭😭😭 IM TELLING I (sincerely, an American)
she moved to England though, cause 1. her parents are loaded and 2. she begged hard enough
okay I think that's all the girls (I will sob if I missed one—)
now for the dudes
Remus— Welsh/English, born and raised in Wales
Idk where I got this from it's just always been there
but if I may
can I propose German Remus? cause I can see it yk
Sirius— French/Italian, born in italy and lived there for a bit, then moved to England
Idk which parent would be which bc I honestly don't care enough about Orion or Wallburga, but I have converted to Italian Black brothers and I couldn't give it up Im telling you
it's just too perfect
Sirius would lean more into learning Italian than French but would be fluent in both, as well as English
his accent is strong but he's good at covering it
Regulus— same as Sirius, French/Italian, but born and raised in France
Id like to think Orion and wallburga were separated for a bit bc they couldn't tolerate each other's bullshit LMAO so they both separated(without anyone knowing ofc) and took the boys to France and Italy for a bit until they had to show their faces together a couple years later
So regulus is ofc fluent in French, as well as Italian, but he doesn't have as strong of an Italian accent, as well as English ofc
he also stopped using Italian a lot more after Sirius left
James— HE'S EITHER INDIAN/BENGALI OR CUBAN/PUERTO RICAN
there's no in between for me he's either Desi or Hispanic LOL (I mean he can be both ofc he can but I always see him as one or the other)
He's fluent in Spanish or Bengali and knows some hindu (but his parents were from West Bengal and Bangladesh so they mainly speak Bengali) and English
But sorry y'all, despite this, his spice tolerance is not great, sue me(/lh)
he still eats it all anyway bc all that food is DELICIOUS OMG(I love food, can you tell)
he was born and raised in England tho
Peter— I think he's Scottish for some reason, born and raised
and he has an accent too hehehe
sorry Peter, you're quite simple when it comes to this imo 😔🎀
Barty— we've all decided he was Italian haven't we
but but what if I hit you with Italian/German barty
I saw it in a post the other day and I loved it LMAO
he was born and raised in Italy but moved to England in his teens
can speak Italian, and German fluently, his English is good but his accents are all over the place at times
Evan— exactly the same as Pandora, Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
Frank— tell me why I see him as Asian (probably bc of Frank from Percy Jackson but that's not my fault—)
but he'd probably be half Chinese and half English
born and raised in England
Lucius— Russian or French, or half and half
it just seems right to me
he was born in raised in Russia until he was ten, then he moved to France, and then finally, they ended up in England for him to go to Hogwarts
fluent in Russian and French, and his English is good enough to get by, his accent is THICK though
Snape(I just realized.... we don't call him by his first name do we 💀)— but ummmm hm
Italian/English
born and raised in England and does not speak Italian
Xenophilius— french, born and raised
can speak French fluently as well as English
Rodolphus(Lestrange)— I can't remember what exactly me and my friend hc them as but ik he was half Romanian
(I think the other half was Russian)
Rabastan(Lestrange)— same as his brother
and... I think that's everyone
everyone that we rlly talk about anyways LMAO
this was a long one hehe
OMG SO SO SO COOL THNAK YOUU FOR TELLING MEEE
I agree with a lot of these hehe
I get where you're coming from with Bellatrix, I've somehow always seen her as part italian for some reason lol, cus of the whole affair thing that I completelyyyy agree withhh
And yeah rita is Definitely American, any idea what state she could be from? I feel like she could also be german/American just for fun
I think xenophilius would be French but I also think he'd maybe be some other European country, maybe like Belgium or maybe Greece? hehe
I LLOVEE THE IDEA OF SIRIUS AND REG BEING ITALIAN AND FRENCH OMG
but sadly I kinda don't think it fits a bit ? IDKK
but yes it absolutely works I'm just veryy used to French black brothers loll
hehe ^_^

Racist Experiences in the Marauders Fandom
These anonymous submissions come from a survey I published several weeks ago where I asked for fans in the Marauders fandom to share their experiences with me. I was overwhelmed with the results, and this is, in their own words, some of the submissions I was sent.
There has been lost of push back against fans using POC fan casts for various characters
weird reactions to desi james or east asian sirius!!
I have seen people get upset when characters are fancast as non-white actors (like dev Patel for James)
Clash of opinions about fanon Hermione being black
I have seen lots of racism towards people's newer fancasts, as all the OGs (ben barnes, andrew garfield, aaron taylor-johnson, etc.) are white and some people are trying to change that!
I saw a fanart one time, where james had a darker skin (he was latino) and someone commented that it doesn't suit him
I draw Sirius black as Asian and I’ve gotten quite a few racist comments about this and I’ve seen a lot of racism about desi James. Also when BIPOC people cosplay characters that people think are “white”
People tend to cast characters as white, and sometimes I see people getting mad someone is fancasting a non-canonically black character as black or as a person of colour (I've seen some good black Remus, non-white Lily, non-white Peter fancasts, and yet, there is still peope being sooo mad about it like??). Sadly, I think a lot of people can tell about the fact that fancasts are often discussed and hated for no reason when they're not white or whatever, when it's basically just a fancast, that goes against the "canon" a bigot (JKR) made up.
the first that’s coming to mind is people fighting against the interpretation/portrayal of characters as poc (most often james bs i think he’s most popularly hced as desi but also others) either that or just straight up gatekeeping
Only the general feeling that the white characters are more interesting and loved than any of the characters of color. Racebending seems token, like nobody wants to be exclusionary but also don't have the comfort or confidence to make that diversity ring true in terms of cultural resonance. By cultural resonance I don't only mean make them ethnic but to portray and discuss or casually mention the postcolonial personhood or third culture kid experience as applies.
A comment on my fic about making it a “racial jungle”, saying that it wasn’t accurate for the time period even though representation of races otherwise had no significance in the fic
theres is a lot people that will fight tooth and nail for exclusively white maruaders (in terms of fancasts) and they slander other people in the fandom for using more diverse fancasts such as desi james or black evan
I've seen it in passing, especially towards POC writers/people who HC characters who were not diverse in canon.
People not wanting desi Potters in art or otherwise
One Harry Potter fan got mad at me for drawing James (and Harry) dark skinned
GOD THE FRIKIN FANCASTS. They really don't matter that much and everyone makes it such a big deal. To me at least- representation only really matters if its real. If there's fat Peter, darkskin Dorcas, desi James, or Japanese Sirius/Regulus in a fanfic, that is the representation of that. It doesn't need to be reflected in a fancast used in an edit. Personal opinion but annoying as fuck I just wish everyone would enjoy the fact that someone spent time pouring over numerous tiny clips from many different TV shows and movies just for fun, and other people getting mad that they didn't use a person that literally doesn't exist angers me to no end.
mostly just a complete ignorance of POC identities. sometimes poc characters are ignored in favour of white characters. but also, even when POC are centered, i often see like a lot of fetishization and stereotyping and it's just... not good...
there’s a lot of jewish people in the fandom that have pointed out antisemitism within the fandom a few times. i am not jewish, and i cannot speak on the issue, but that’s something i’ve heard a lot. i’ve also seen the whitewashing of fancasts for characters like mary and dorcas who are widely accepted to be women of color, so that feels weird to me, but i think? that’s everything i’ve noticed or heard.
i've seen racism thrown to black creators, poc fancasts, and at myself for being arab and head-cannoning the black brother as arab.
There was a black dude cosplaying remus and their were people saying remus wasnt a N-word but it was a white person saying it
I have seen some fans respond in a racist way to Black fans who have called out the racism in the way in which Black characters are written and portrayed in the fandom.

speaking of fancast, who can you see as ash and embry? i know it makes no sense bc of their physical descriptions in the books but i just saw masters of the air and i thought austin butler and callum turner gave that vibe...
Honestly, I don't think I see anyone as them? It's really unusual of me to relate anyone to Greer or Isolde, and I think it's mostly because I just love Elle as an actress and find that she does a very good job with playing a psychotic woman who wants to kill her husband, which.... Isolde Laurence. But she also gives All American Girl which gives Greer Galloway (Greer Colchester-Moore, I'm sorry).
I don't really see Callum as either one, but Austin is probably pretty enough to be an Embry for me. Embry's defining physical appearance thing is like "looks rich and is distractingly pretty" and that is indeed Austin Butler! But Callum is one of the more promising white boys on the scene. And he and Austin absolutely have great chemistry, for sure!

Children of Eönwë and Elenna (OCs): The Lady of Ithilien
[Since I don't know how many years LOI will cover yet, I am posting the faceclaims of the children up until year FoA 43— the year both their parents die. The adult versions of the surviving children will be featured in the sequel Estel i Hína]
Fionwë
FoA 25 (stillbirth; named posthumously)
Mírion
DOB: FoA 26
DOD:
First child of Eönwë and Elenna. He's his father's heir and his mother's pride and joy. He adores his parents and would give his life for them.
Fancast: Berkecan Akkaya (toddler/childhood)
Louis Partridge (teenage years/adulthood)
Éowyn ("Wyn")
DOB: FoA 27
DOD: FoA 44 (aged 17)
Eönwë and Elenna's second child and first daughter. Named after her maternal grandmother, she's lively, spunky and fun. She's obsessed with jewelry and, according to her siblings, she talks way too much. She's her father's darling and has a very complicated relationship with her mother.
Fancast: Ayda Acar (toddler); Grace May O' Leary (childhood); (teenage tears/early adulthood:
Boromir
DOB: FoA 29
DOD: FoA 35/36
Named after his uncle (the son of deceased Captain of the White Tower; check my Half-Human/Half-Elven OC profiles for reference), he's an adorable ray of sunshine.
Unfortunately, due to *things that happen to his mom*, he's very sickly and often bedridden. He and his younger brother Elarion adore one another (they're basically twins even though they're actually not) and will die on the same day. Natural causes? Coincidence? Mairon trying to undermine Eönwë in any possible way to break him utterly? Who knows (spoiler, I don't either)
Fancast: Alihan Türkdemir
Elarion
DOB: FoA 31
DOD: FoA 35/36
Fourth child of Eönwë and Elenna, he's also very sickly. Boromir is his best friend and they always stick together. They will probably die together as well.
Fancast: I only found a gif and a pic of him but that's basically how he looks like (he's such a cute kid). I'll make a collage once I have found more pics.
Eglantine ("Tilly")
DOB: Adopted in FoA 32
DOD: FoA 39
Adopted in FoA 32. She's an elf. She's very close with Wyn and her younger sister Finduilas. Enna brings her home with the intent to keep her temporarily. Needless to say, they end up keeping her permanently and adopt her.
Fancast: Amelie Child Villiers
Finduilas ("Finnie")
DOB: FoA 32
DOD:
Fifth child of Eönwë and Elenna. Tilly is her best friend. She's quiet, enjoys reading and studying and is a polyglot. She adores her dad, but she also has a closer relationship to Enna compared to her sisters.
Fancast: Balim Gaye Bayrak
Elanorellë ("Ellie")
DOB: FoA 34
DOD: FoA 40
Fancast: Amelia Crouch
Aearwen Elanel
DOB: FoA 36
DOD: FoA 40
Partly named after Enna's birth mother.
Fancast: [Esmanur from Magnificent Century]
Stillborn boy in FoA 41
Vanya Elestellë & Faramir Elegil
DOB: FoA 43 (twins)
DOD:
The last children. Depending on when LOI ends, they will either appear as newborn or as toddlers. In any case, I'm including their faceclaims.
Vanya Elestellë
Fancast: Nisa Sofiya Aksongur
(Adult version to be featured in the sequel: Evie Allen)
Faramir Elegil ("Feathermir")
Fancast: Çağan Efe Ak
(Adult version to be featured in the sequel: Boran Bağci)
NOTE (& SPOILERS NO ONE WILL CARE ABOUT)=> I know I haven't included all the children's adult versions in this post, but that doesn't mean they're all going to die. I just haven't found the right faceclaims yet 😊 the only confirmed casualties here are Boromir and Elarion. Wyn may die too after her parents' death.
Shortly after Boromir and Elarion's funeral, Eönwë realizes there's seriously wrong with him and it doesn't take him long to figure that he will eventually die. He doesn't say anything to anyone, but he knows the end is coming for him. Which is why, he'll try not to produce any more children (creation is a Maiarin thing, after all). As a matter of fact, Vanya and Faramir are a mistake. They just...happen. They weren't planned (none of the children was actually, but...you know what I mean).
I'll update this post again once I find the name of all the missing actors 😊

you're so real for saying charithra chandran for rapunzel, she's been my number one fancast for her if there ever is a live-action movie (hopefully there won't be one! PLEASE disney come up with new ideas for the love of god!!) the moment i laid eyes on her while watching bridgerton.
something that really irks me is the number of people crying over rumours of rapunzel not being white... like people are going over to avantika's socials and harassing her over a literal fancast which is quite frankly very strange behaviour. their number one excuse for the anti desi rapunzel is: "well, desi girls aren't naturally blonde. we need a blonde to play rapunzel, otherwise it won't be realistic, duh!" but!
1st of all, rapunzel herself isn't even blonde. she's brunette!
2nd, rapunzel's hair has never ever been realistic. super long, glowing, magical hair is realistic to you people? really?
also seeing people say that rapunzel can't be desi because she's german... and then propose a different actress who isn't even german either to be rapunzel lol.
but idk. the undercover racists are once again coming out full force. it's like the halle bailey situation all over again
i hope this was a good take sob sorry for bringing bad vibes to the function
anywho, at the end of the day i will literally get on my knees and BEG disney to not make any more live actions movies. we don't need them!!!!!
I agree with literally everything you said, including fan-casting Charithra because of her performance in Bridgerton. XD I watched her there, and for the first time since the movie came out, I saw an actress I'd be happy with portraying Rapunzel. She's got the acting chops, she's got the look, her innocence is so sweet and her rage is so palpable. The only role I've ever seen Avantika in is Karen in Mean Girls, and although that's just one role, nothing about her performance said "Disney's Rapunzel" to me.
I really really hate that people think it's okay to harass actors for any reason, let alone because of a popular fancast. In that respect, social media is a blight. People should not have unfettered access to celebrities and the creatives behind their favorite shows. God, I wish people could be trusted, but this is why we can't have nice things.
Oddly, I've been seeing a lot of people complaining in the Tumblr tags about people's treatment of Avantika on Tiktok and Twitter, but I haven't really seen people complaining about it here on Tumblr. So basically, the people yelling in the tags are yelling at the wrong people*. Of course, this happens all the time around here; people complaining about what they saw on a different social media platform.
But, yeah. NO MORE LIVE ACTION REMAKES, PLEASE. I mean, we obviously can't stop them, because too many people who aren't that critical of it enjoy it, but it sure would be nice if they'd get the picture.
*Not to say that I think that no one here on Tumblr is racist or feels the same way as the TikTokers and Twits who are being overtly racist, just that I'm not seeing it with my own eyes, because I'm not on those platforms.
